Random Wandering Around Homoclinic-like Manifolds in Symplectic Map Chain

We present a method to construct a symplecticity preserving renormalization group map of a chain of weakly nonlinear symplectic maps and obtain a general reduced symplectic map describing its long-time behaviour. It is found that the modulational instability in the reduced map triggers random wandering of orbits around some homoclinic-like manifolds, which is understood as the Bernoulli shifts.Comment: submitted to Prog. Are Two z~6 Quasars Gravitationally Lensed ?

Several high-z (z > 5.7) quasars have been found in the course of Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The presence of such very high-z quasars is expected to give constraints on early structure formation. On one hand, it is suggested that these most luminous objects at high redshift are biased toward the highly magnified objects by gravitational lensing. To clarify the effect of gravitational lensing on the high-z quasars, we began the imaging survey of intervening lensing galaxies. Indeed our previous optical image showed that SDSSp J104433.04+012502.2 at z=5.74 is gravitationally magnified by a factor 2. In this paper, we report our new optical imaging of other two high-z quasars, SDSSp J103027.10+052455.0 at z=6.28 and SDSSp J130608.26+035626.3 at z=5.99. Since we find neither intervening galaxy nor counter image with i^{\prime} < 25.4-25.8 around each quasar, we conclude that they are not strongly magnified regardless that a lens galaxy is dusty.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for PAS

GYNECOLOGICAL ENDOCRINOLOGY is available online at: https://doi.org/10.3109/09513590903215482Cyclin-dependent-kinase (cdk) inhibitor, p27<SUKip1</SU (p27), has been shown to participate in progestin-induced growth suppression of normal endometrial glands. To analyse the molecular mechanisms regulating p27 protein, we examined immunohistochemical expression of the SCF<SUSkp2</SU (Skp1-Cullin-F-box protein) complex factors, i.e. Skp1, Cul1 and Skp2, and compared them with that of p27, steroid receptors and Ki-67. In normal endometrial glands, the expression of Skp2 was observed in the proliferative phase, whereas that of p27 was observed in the secretory phase. Cultured normal endometrial glandular cells showed that progesterone induced the down-regulation of Skp2 along with up-regulation of p27. In endometrial carcinomas, the inverse topological correlation between Skp2 and p27 was evident in 39/66 (59%) cases, and the expression of Skp2 showed a strong correlation with Ki-67. These findings suggest that the expression of SCF<SUSkp2</SU complex changes during the menstrual cycle in normal endometrium and the SCF<SUSkp2</SU ubiquitin-proteasome pathway may also work in endometrial carcinomas.</.ArticleGYNECOLOGICAL ENDOCRINOLOGY. 26(3):220-229 (2010)journal articl

Single‐Crystal‐to‐Single‐Crystal Installation of Ln₄(OH)₄ Cubanes in an Anionic Metallosupramolecular Framework

Postsynthetic installation of lanthanide cubanes into a metallosupramolecular framework via a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation is presented. Soaking single crystals of K6[Rh4Zn4O(l-cys)12] (K6[1]; l-H2cys=l-cysteine) in a water/ethanol solution containing Ln(OAc)3 (Ln3+=lanthanide ion) results in the exchange of K+ by Ln3+ with retention of the single crystallinity, producing Ln2[1] (2Ln) and Ln0.33[Ln4(OH)4(OAc)3(H2O)7][1] (3Ln) for early and late lanthanides, respectively. While the Ln3+ ions in 2Ln exist as disordered aqua species, those in 3Ln form ordered hydroxide-bridged cubane clusters that connect [1]6− anions in a 3D metal-organic framework through coordination bonds with carboxylate groups. This study shows the utility of an anionic metallosupramolecular framework with carboxylate groups for the creation of a series of metal cubanes that have great potential for various applications, such as magnetic materials and heterogeneous catalysts. This is the pre-peer reviewed version of the following article: N. High Frequency Core Loss and Initial Permeability of Ferromagnetic Amorphous Ribbons

For the purpose of practical applications of the amorphous Fe_5Co_Si_B_ ribbon to high frequency magnetic material, the initial permeability μ_i, the loss factor tan δ as well as the quality factor were measured in the frequency region from 3 kHz to 70 kHz by using a Maxwell Bridge. μ_i is almost independent of the intensity of magnetic field and increases monotonically with a decrease of the frequency. tan δ increases linearly with an increase of the frequency in the initial permeability region. tan δ/μ_i is a good linear function of the square of the thickness and increase with an increase of the frequency. From these experiments, it was found that among losses, the eddy current loss is most essential in the high frequency region in the amorphous ribbons

Correlation between inflammation state and successful medical cardioversion using bepridil for refractory atrial fibrillation

AbstractBackgroundIt has been reported that inflammation is associated with long-term maintenance of sinus rhythm after electrical cardioversion for non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the relation between high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and the recurrence of AF after medical cardioversion is unknown. On the other hand, bepridil is very effective in restoring sinus rhythm for patients with refractory AF.Methods and resultsIn 119 patients with non-valvular AF lasting >6 months who failed to maintain sinus rhythm after medical cardioversion without bepridil or electrical cardioversion, we prescribed bepridil. We divided our patients into success group who maintained sinus rhythm for at least 6 months using bepridil and failure group, and compared the following parameters, which were measured just before prescription of bepridil, between the two groups: hs-CRP as a marker of inflammation, left ventricular end-diastolic dimension, ejection fraction, and left atrial dimension as echocardiographic markers, and the incidence of dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. After the treatment with bepridil, 57 patients converted to sinus rhythm; however, 12 patients among these 57 patients could not maintain sinus rhythm. Therefore, the success group consisted of 45 patients (38%). Univariate analysis revealed that left atrial dimension and the value of hs-CRP were significantly lower and ejection fraction was significantly higher in the success group than the failure group. Multivariate analysis showed that hs-CRP and left atrial dimension were independent factors for AF recurrence.ConclusionsBepridil is effective in restoring sinus rhythm for refractory AF patients. Inflammation, in addition to left atrial dimension, may be associated with successful cardioversion using bepridil

Phase Ib/II study of nivolumab combined with palliative radiation therapy for bone metastasis in patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer

Radiation therapy (RT) can enhance the abscopal effect of immune checkpoint blockade. This phase I/II study investigated the efficacy and safety of nivolumab plus RT in HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer requiring palliative RT for bone metastases. Cohort A included luminal-like disease, and cohort B included both luminal-like and triple-negative disease refractory to standard systemic therapy. Patients received 8 Gy single fraction RT for bone metastasis on day 0. Nivolumab was administered on day 1 for each 14-day cycle. In cohort A, endocrine therapy was administered. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) of the unirradiated lesions. Cohorts A and B consisted of 18 and 10 patients, respectively. The ORR was 11% (90% CI 4–29%) in cohort A and 0% in cohort B. Disease control rates were 39% (90% CI 23–58%) and 0%. Median progression-free survival was 4.1 months (95% CI 2.1–6.1 months) and 2.0 months (95% CI 1.2–3.7 months). One patient in cohort B experienced a grade 3 adverse event. Palliative RT combined with nivolumab was safe and showed modest anti-tumor activity in cohort A. Further investigations to enhance the anti-tumor effect of endocrine therapy combined with RT plus immune checkpoint blockade are warranted

Novel method for detection of pancreatic beta cell death using cell-free DNA

In people with type1 diabetes(T1D), biomarkers that can sensitively and quantitatively evaluate injury of pancreatic beta cell are required in order to predict the onset of the disease at an early stage and to provide interventions to prevent the progression of the disease. We developed a new method for quantifying pancreatic beta cell-derived insulin DNA in circulation that combines bisulfite conversion and Amplification Refractory Mutation System(ARMS)PCR, which can be performed using a conventional real-time PCR system. We applied this method to T1D patients and healthy adults, both could be detected in about 30% of cases. The results in healthy adults indicate that this method may have sensitivity to detect the turnover of pancreatic beta cells at physiological conditions. In post-onset T1D patients, there were many negatives because the amount of residual pancreatic beta cells was extremely small. However, in some cases with a short duration of the disease, pancreatic beta cell-derived insulin DNA was detected in negative correlation between the duration of the disease, that suggested the residual pancreatic beta cells continue to be slowly destroyed. It was demonstrated that the time course of pathophysiology in T1D could be understood using this method
